Effective September 15, 2026
LakePoints uses location to provide lake maps, verify nearby visits and flag captures, and detect cheating or abuse. Public boat visibility is optional and off by default. If you enable it, your nickname and recent location may be shown to other app users while you are near the lake and actively using the app. User locations are never displayed on the public website.
Information we collect
Location
With device permission, the app may collect precise GPS coordinates, accuracy, and time while you use it. Location supports your map position, distance calculations, Passport verification, flag features, POI photo validation, optional public presence, service security, and anti-cheating review. Ordinary screen-view analytics do not include GPS coordinates. Optional live presence is stored separately and expires after approximately five minutes. Precise coordinates submitted with Passport, flag, contribution, security, or anti-cheating actions may be retained and are available only to authenticated administrators through the secured LakePoints website; the mobile app contains no administrative location viewer.
Contributor identity
We create a device-associated contributor identity and collect the public nickname you choose. An email address is optional when contacting support. We do not require your legal name.
Content and activity
We collect comments, photographs, videos, POI suggestions, captions, embedded photo location metadata used to validate a new POI, fuel or water reports, support messages, Passport visits, flag history, achievements, and leaderboard results. Approved nicknames, contributions, current flag ownership, game results, and opted-in active boat locations may be displayed to other app users.
Technical information
We may collect app version, platform, device manufacturer and model, operating-system version, screen or feature usage, session identifiers, device-related identifiers, timestamps, IP-derived server logs, crash stack traces, app-hang and termination details, and other diagnostic information needed to secure and improve the service. Crash reports may include a pseudonymous LakePoints user identifier and the current app screen. When an API operation fails, the app may report the operation type, response status, limited error message, request correlation identifier, platform, app version, and time. These automatic reports do not include request contents, uploaded photos or videos, screenshots, view hierarchies, session replay, credentials, email addresses, or coordinates. LakePoints does not sell personal or sensitive information.
How we use information
- Provide maps, nearby features, optional active-boater visibility, Passport stamps, flag ownership, leaderboards, and content synchronization.
- Review and publish community submissions.
- Detect abuse, inaccurate submissions, fraud, and unsafe activity.
- Respond to support and deletion requests.
- Measure reliability and improve the applications.
Public boat visibility
Public boat visibility is off by default. You may opt in during nickname setup or later under More → User, and you may turn it off again at any time. When enabled, the app may show your nickname, recent location, badges, visited-point count, capture count, and currently held points to other app users. Only recent locations inside the Lake Cumberland service area are shown, and live-presence records expire after approximately five minutes without an update. Turning public visibility off removes your live-presence record and prevents new public markers but does not stop location use required for maps, distance calculation, stamps, flags, security, or anti-cheating review.
Sharing and processors
Information may be processed by infrastructure, hosting, mapping, app-distribution, security, and application-reliability providers acting for LakePoints. Sentry processes privacy-limited crash and app-hang diagnostics for application reliability. We may disclose information when legally required or necessary to protect users and the service. Live locations are not published on the public website.
Retention and deletion
Optional live-presence records expire after approximately five minutes and are deleted when sharing is turned off. Precise location evidence submitted for Passport visits, flags, contributions, security, and anti-cheating activity may be retained so LakePoints can investigate manipulated GPS activity, cheating, fraud, abuse, and disputes over game results. Published contributions and associated attribution are retained while they remain part of the lake guide. Support and moderation records may be retained to document decisions and prevent abuse. When a valid deletion request is completed, directly identifying information is deleted or deidentified; security and anti-fraud records may be retained in deidentified or otherwise legally permitted form.
Your choices
You may decline location permission, although maps, verification, and flag features may be limited. You can disable public boat visibility independently under More → User, and device permissions can be changed in system settings. You may request access, correction, withdrawal of a contribution, or deletion through Delete my data or Support.
Children
LakePoints is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly request personal information from them. A parent or guardian may contact Support regarding a child’s information.
Security and changes
We use technical and administrative safeguards appropriate to the information handled, but no networked service is completely secure. Material policy changes will be posted here with a revised effective date.
